Some pictures of Port Louis
By train: Lorient is three hours by fast train form Paris with a very regular service from the Montparnasse railway station. Prices vary and it is always better to book ahead and seek out the cheaper offer. SNCF train tickets can be bought online from: https://en.oui.sncf/en/ By plane: The easiest solution is to arrive in Paris and take the train. There are some direct trains from CDG airport to Lorient, or with a change in Rennes. Brittany has several large airports, but the current crisis has had a very big impact and it is difficult to predict the situation in a year from now. Lorient has an airport that had regular connections to Paris and Lyon. However, Air France has withdrawn services. The airport is open as it is also a military air field, but using it requires joining the French marine commandos and using a parachute, which may not be to everyone's taste. Other airports are Brest, Nantes - the largest regional airport - and Rennes. All three are served by Air France and companies such as EasyJet, Transavia and Vueling. Train links are particularly easy from Nantes and Rennes. By sea: Regular ferries run from the UK and Ireland to the ports of Roscoff and St Malo. Even if you don't come by boat, we do recommend you take a ferry across the bay to the Island of Groix (45 minutes) or simply the boat-bus to historical Port Louis for the price of a bus ticket (about 1 euro 50). By car: The coastal areas of Brittany are well-served by dual carriageways allowing easy driving. Be careful, Brittany is free of motorways so speed is limited to 110km/h on the dual carriageways. Lorient is on the southern road, the RN 165. Car sharing: This is greatly encouraged for the environmentally aware and numerous systems for "covoiturage" can be found online.
Town bus
Buses are operated by the CTRL. To get to ENSIBS, take the T3 and get off at Campus sciences. Continue to walk in the direction of the bus. At the roundabout, ENSIBS is opposite on your right. Lorient is not an expensive city and there is accommodation to suit all tastes. We shall try and indicate prices later, but at the moment the hotels are only just opening up after lockdown. Larmor Plage and Lomener are seaside resorts and only really suitable if you have means of transport, which can include a bicycle as the coast is relatively. In town, there is an excellent bus service, but it does not operate in evenings and at night. From most of the intown hotels it is quite feasible to walk to the university, which is about 20 minutes on foot out of town. Booking via platforms is always possible, but booking directly will generally give you a better price and the satisfaction of knowing that the hotel owner isn't being robbed!
